My good friend Robert Strauss is The Gardener On The Roof. I met him in Barcelona, Spain and needed to come to his area to peer his highly-productive and artistic rooftop garden. In reality, it is greater than a rooftop garden as he has 5 overall tales of rising house.
He makes his personal compost via getting scraps from the native green grocer, in addition to gathering leaves from his neighbors all the way through the autumn and iciness.
In this video, we undergo his complete garden from begin to end to turn you precisely how he grows such a lot Food in the sort of tight city house.
As an advantage, we harvest and prepare dinner calçots a kind of spring onion that is well-known in Catalunya with romesco sauce. We pull it immediately from his garden, throw it at the grill, get some newspaper from Big Al, after which consume all of it in combination to near out the video.

Thank you for sharing. My husband family is from Spain, so I sent this video to my Mother in law to see. She will enjoy. I always enjoy your videos.
That was an amazing video loved it 💙🤘🏼🙏🏼
fabulous! thanks
Wow! Robert is an awesome urban gardener. Does his wife share the romescu sauce recipe!? Can we get Calcote onion bulbs in the U.S.? What a great documentary on this epat urban rooftop farmer. Loved the neighbors weighing in from their balconies. And that compost….
So HOPING he uses charcoal instead of coal briquettes??? Nothing tastes better than cooking on wood. Far healthier. Gosh, I onions make me ill, and I still want to eat them! I LOVE shallots and leeks-amazing! Thank you SO much-wonderful!😍
Love this video
This was such an awesome video …start to finish💯💯👍🏿👍🏿great!,
Hummingbirds aren’t in spain are they? A hummingbird moth perhaps?
I am wondering if you could entice Robert to discuss his composting method in more detail, I would be very interested in trying something like this at home and love the compact design. I have looked (possibly not hard enough) to find more details on his particular design but have fallen short. It seems it needs minimal sun, relying almost entirely on decomposing material for heat, has little to no drainage (for water), and apart from a regular turn there is little aeration. It almost seems to defy some of the basic rules of this style of compost. I AM VERY INTRIGUED!
YouTube keeps unsubscribing me from your channel… great thing is it keeps sending me.your old videos and I love watching them
Are those what we call leeks in Australia ? The veg you cooked at the end .
Can't watch yall walking around up there! Does anyone ever fall?
Wow….thanks Kevin! Always great videos
Fear of heights here, but tried not to look over the edge and just loved this interview and tour (except for the edges). Wish I could get some bulbs in California to grow it myself!
This is incredibly well made, you're a natural for this kind of thing. You should come and do a documentary about my bookshelf with some jars of moss and a cactus
Love it! Thanks again for another awesome video. And thank you, Robert.
Lovely video! Are the composting containers available in the USA?
