Cube Steak with Onion Gravy — Flavorful and Delicious

Cube Steak with Onion Gravy
Ingredients:
4 cube steaks 1 ½ pounds
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoon all purpose flour
3 tablespoons olive oil
For the Onion Gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
1 large yellow onion sliced into ½ inch slices
3 cloves garlic minced
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
3 cups beef stock
1 beef bouillon cube
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 package brown gravy mix (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:

Place your steaks on the counter and let them come to room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
In a small bowl mix all your spices together.
Place your steaks on a cutting board and cover them with a piece of plastic wrap and pound out your steaks
Sprinkle all sides with the spice mixture and 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour evenly.
Heat a skillet with olive oil on medium-high heat. Once the pan is really hot place the steaks in the pan. (You may have to cook them in two batches if your steaks are large, they will shrink some after cooking) Cook for about 3 minutes then flip and cook another 2-3 minutes. Then remove them to a plate and set them aside.
In the same pan lower the heat to medium and add the butter and sliced onions and let cook about 15-20 or until desired softness.
Add in the diced garlic and cook another minute until fragrant.
Sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and cook another 30 seconds.
Pour in the beef stock, bouillon cube and Worcestershire sauce and simmer just until thickened.
Optional: add one package of brown gravy mix
Place steaks back into the gravy and let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, or white rice.

I am so hungry! 😂 Cubed steak always takes me back home in my mind. All five of us loved it and still do. We always had it with mashed potatoes and English peas. Around here, at least back in the day, potato was the go-to veggie. When I moved to Shreveport, LA in my late 20’s I found that rice was their potato’s. As a friend down there said to me once, “potatoes lay too heavy on the stomach!” I guess he was right. I like them both. Have a good week.

Looks great! People that are gluten free can easily use corn starch instead of flour, in half the amount, to make gravy. I’ve not had cube steak in years – your recipe looks SO good! Thank you for sharing!

I wondered what happened to your side kick! She came back to eat! I have major back problems also. Makes it hard to play with my Great Grandchildren! I still have to stand and cook all my meals. I thought Marie made the biacuits. It only takes a few minutes to make a pan of biscuits. Seems like Calvin is always making all the meals now. Marie makes only fast easy desserts. It's better to get up and move around with a bad back than to sit for sure. At my age I won't let anything stop me! Marie, you might need to get a second opinion. See an Orthopedic Doctor! Not just a Chiropractor! They're no good for Back problems! I telling you the truth honey. I know! Good Luck bc those injections are bad for your back and are temporary n money snatchers! I'm speaking from years of experience! Praying for y'all. God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤🔥🔥🇺🇸🇺🇸
