  1. This report makes no mention of the great destruction of Italian olive trees caused by the exceptional cold of the last few winters.  Olive tree farmers in some areas face a crisis because of extreme cold snaps, which have frozen their crops.  Typically, CBS only reports the half of the news that doesn't go against the grain of their PC narrative.

  2. maybe the disease was planted intentionally to create profits for competitors?
China is trying to grow olive trees in South Africa.
Would they do something like this?

  3. find a natural predator for the bug that carries xyllela from tree to tree… it might create a new problem but it will save all of them amazing trees.

  4. I don't see the problem. Cut down and burn all the old trees. Plant new ones. Your trees were planted by the Romans! For 1500 years people have just picked the fruit. Someone has to invest in new trees. You could then put them in lines and farm them the modern way. This is such a first world problem – but muh Roman trees!

  5. trees across the whole world are dying( city and rural) most logical deduction is the fn everyday spraying of earth. but udiots refuse to accept the depth of darkness by the power structure. I feel for them and perhaps because of their denia, cowardice and stupidity the power people believe they deserve to die. I wanna shame them for ignoring the obvious above their heads everyday. anyways too many people are gullible.

  6. I live in Ventura County in Southern California. A few years ago my fifty year old olive tree was diagnosed with xylella fastidiosa by an ISA certified arborist. My once beautiful tree looks terrible.

  7. Olive trees are directly related to fraxinus Ash, forsythia, lilac, and frindge tree. Dutch elm disease, Oak Wilt and today's Italian Olive tree killer fungus all similarly have one thing in common. It's transported from tree to tree by a vectoring bug hosting disease which feeds on small Branch crotches and leaf pedials. Each causing their own type of vascular wilt ironically resulting from defending tree itself trying to block up it's pipe system.

As Scottie Ash Tree Seed whose ancestral family emigrated to Chicago Illinois from region of Tuscany in Italia. I have become one of our nation's leading Arborist patriotically conserving some 26 native North American Ash species from Chinese emerald ash borer that arrived to Detroit area on shipping crates 30 years ago.

Since then I had introduced our critically endangered ash genus to continent of India's ancient neem tree, which had evolved a successful cure for itself by naturally producing a larvicide called azderactin too also protect it from cambium borers similar to exact type of bug attacking ash.

Thankfully for us in the US, emerald ash borers do not infect Nor disease trees. City of Chicago transformed their 36,000 inoculated trees into large living EAB Bug zappers. Defined as a 100% god sent cure because inoculations not only fully protect trees, but help substantially lower local borer populations as well.

Yes we are the same American city that totally eradicated the dreaded Asian longhorned beetle which arrived to Chicago back in the 1990s. Preventing greatest urban forestry calamity ever on planet Earth. Which unlike past killers specific to one type of tree. ALB destroys all Maple species, all Elm species, all Linden Basswood species just to name a few.

  8. Look up the Chinese chestnut blight and how the American chestnut tree handled it. 4 billion dead 20 years later. Gone.

Those trees defined the American way of life here in the Appalachian region. The timing of industrialization was a convenient, and success way to move on

Here in 2019, Italy I’m sorry. Enjoy the last 10 good years and hope transgenics ( genetic splicing of genes) continues to receive funding in an effort to be able to make the true 1,500 year old olive trees immune

  9. The Romans are turning over in their graves as this is such a tragedy! These very old trees are so mystically beautiful that I want to take a nap under one just to try to connect to their mystically beautiful past and capture a dream from that past!!

  10. Burning the trees might make have made this worse. It's a mutation caused by military chemicals. I smelled it in the oxygen and have been sick for a week and a half. Spanish flu was caused by evil men and this is also. Nuclear mutation. My aloe vera trees feel like dried leather. Misery.

  11. I am Turkish olive producer. In the last 10 years, we have lost about 100 trees due to this disease. It is causing great trouble in 3 of our fields.
