Puglia – provides the finest quality Olive Oil

Olive trees, two to three thousand years old, still provides the finest quality Olive Oils. Corrado Rodio owner and guide at Masseria Brancati, a typical Puglia farmhouse, in Ostuni shows us around the olive grove in the largest olive growing region in the world. Ostuni is also known as The White City.
For six generations the Rodio family has produced extra virgin olive oil and now they also have opened the masseria’s doors on a bed and breakfast basis to guests (the original living quarters have been transformed into three accommodations, leaving the other structures and its architectonic features unaltered). Guided tours, including a tasting of the olive oil, can be arranged.
A little bit more than an hour away you can visit towns of exceptional beauty such as Otranto, Lecce, Gallipoli, Trani, Castel del Monte and in about two hours you can visit the famous rock dwellings of Matera, San Giovanni Rotondo.
In 1880 the old underground olive mill was abandoned and is today a museum. Don Domenico Rodio the masseria’s owner at the time built a second building, used up until the 1960s.
In old building the stone mills are kept which are still in perfect condition. You can also see numerous tools that are related to the local peasant culture, especially those tools that were used during the production of olive oil over the centuries.
Apart from the owner’s residence the masseria has an apartment and two mini apartments, which can be rented as self sufficient units or use can be made of the bed and breakfast service.
The Stanza Azzurra and Stanza Rosa rooms are very comfortable. Our masseria offers the perfect setting for guests that would like to enjoy the natural surroundings in total relaxation, taste the local specialities, our fresh farm eggs and sample the fine extra virgin olive oil which is produced and sold in the masseria (farmhouse).
